Grok Free vs. Paid: What Each Plan Includes

Facts and prices last checked October 17, 2026 · About a 6-minute read

You can use Grok for free. Paid plans give you more usage and more features. Here's what each plan includes, in plain English, so you can decide if you need one at all.

Prices change. Everything below comes from official pages we checked on October 17, 2026. Plans, prices, and features can change at any time, so always check the official pricing page before you buy.[1]

The Short Version

  • Free costs $0 and gives you limited chat with Grok.[1]
  • Plus is $8 a month.[1]
  • Premium is $30 a month, with 4 times the usage of Plus.[1]
  • Super is $100 a month, with 15 times the usage of Plus.[1]
  • Ultra is $200 a month, with 50 times the usage of Plus.[1]

These are the monthly list prices on the official pricing page. They don't include taxes or fees, and the page itself says prices are subject to change.[1]

One Subscription for Grok and X

The paid plans are part of something the company calls "The X Subscription." It's one subscription that bundles Grok, a coding tool called Cursor, and perks on the X social network.[3][4]

The X perks depend on your plan, and you only get them once you connect a personal X account.[5] If you only care about chatting with Grok, you can ignore the X and coding parts.

Already pay for an older plan? You may see names like SuperGrok or X Premium on some official pages. Those existing plans keep working unless you change or cancel them, and switching to the new plans is optional.[2][3]

The Free Plan

The free plan is a good place to start. The official pricing page lists:[1]

  • Limited chat requests with Grok
  • Limited agent requests
  • Standard X: post, reply, and follow

You don't need to pay anything to try Grok on the web or in the apps.[8][7]

Each paid plan includes everything in the plan before it, plus more.[1] Here's what the official pricing page lists for each one.

Plus ($8 a Month)

  • A shared usage allowance for Grok chat, voice, Imagine (images), and Build[1]
  • Access to the Cursor coding tool and the Grok API (tools for people who build software)[1]
  • On X: a checkmark, creator tools, and fewer timeline ads[1][5]

Plus doesn't include video generation or Grok Bot.[1][2] The company says Plus is meant for social creators who use AI only a little.[1]

Premium ($30 a Month)

  • 4 times the usage of Plus[1]
  • The latest Grok models and faster chat responses[1]
  • AI images and video generation[1]
  • Grok Bot, which the company describes as AI teammates that work on a cloud computer for you[1][6]
  • Extra coding tools, like code hosting, AI code reviews, and cloud agents[1]
  • On X: full X Premium+ benefits, including ad-free scrolling on most surfaces[5][1]

Super ($100 a Month)

  • Everything in Premium[1]
  • 15 times the usage of Plus[1]
  • Priority access to the models at busy times[1]

Ultra ($200 a Month)

  • Everything in Super[1]
  • 50 times the usage of Plus[1]
  • Earliest access to new products and models[1]

There are also Teams and Enterprise plans for businesses. We don't cover them here; see the official pricing page.[1]

How Usage Limits Work

Paid plans don't give you a separate limit for each feature. Instead, you get one usage allowance for the week that you can spend however you like across Grok's features, like chat, images, and voice.[1][6]

  • Some things use more than others. A chat message uses very little. Making a high-quality video uses a lot more.[6]
  • It resets every week. You can see your usage and your reset date in Grok under Settings → Usage.[6]
  • Run out early? Paid features pause until your allowance resets. You can still use Grok's free-tier limits in the meantime.[6]
  • Want more right away? You can buy extra usage credits (starting at $5, on the web only for now), turn on automatic top-ups, or move up to a bigger plan.[6]
Good to know: extra usage credits cost more per use than the usage included in a plan. The official FAQ says that if you keep running out, upgrading is usually better value than buying credits again and again.[6]

Which Plan Should a Beginner Pick?

The company's pricing page recommends Premium for people who are new to AI.[1]

Our take as fellow beginners: start with the free plan. Use it for a week or two and see if you keep bumping into limits. If you do, or you want features like video, look at the paid plans then. There's no rush.

Before You Pay

  • Buy only from the official website. The company says subscriptions are only sold directly, it doesn't authorize resellers, and accounts bought elsewhere may be suspended.[1]
  • Cancel in time. You can cancel anytime, but do it at least 24 hours before your plan renews to avoid another charge.[1]
  • Watch for taxes. The listed prices don't include taxes or fees.[1]
  • Use the same sign-in everywhere. Your subscription is tied to the account you bought it with. If you sign in a different way on another device, it can look like your plan is missing.[6]
